During the integration exam, DUO checks if you know enough about the Netherlands. And if your Dutch is good enough.

Participation statement

You do all the learning for the participation statement at the municipality. You will learn what is important in the Netherlands. The municipality tells you what you need to do. The participation statement does not involve taking an exam at DUO.

Speaking

You take the Speaking exam on a computer. You will need to speak and understand Dutch. You will watch short films and answer questions. The exam lasts 35 minutes.

Beschrijving

There are several exams you take on a computer. These are the exams Knowledge of Dutch society, Reading skills, Listening skills and Speaking skills.

On the day of the exam you have to register at the reception. So, don’t forget to bring a valid ID. A valid ID can be a Dutch driver’s license for example.

You take the exam together with others. Everyone waits in the waiting room until the exam begins.

Before the exam begins you have to store your belongings in a locker.

If it’s time for your exam the exam leader will call you.

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. Examinees can report to my colleague. Please show her the invitation letter and your ID.

The exam leader checks your ID once more.

In the exam room everyone is assigned a place. When you’re in your assigned place, the exam leader will explain the exam.

Good morning everyone. This exam takes 60 minutes. First you will get an explanation followed by 2 practice questions.

The exams knowledge of Dutch society, Reading skills, Listening skills and speaking skills are taken on a computer. The exam leader will tell you what to do.

Mo reads information about registering a birth. Read the text.

Where would that be? A. at the police. B. at the hospital or C at the Town Hall?

One minute and 15 minutes before the end of the exam you will get a warning. You have to keep a close eye on the time yourself. Any questions? If you hesitate about a question you can go back with the mouse and answer the question again.

The exam leader will say when the exam begins.

If you have a question during the exam? Raise your hand. The exam leader will come over to you. Ask the question. The exam leader will give you an answer. This way you will disturb the exam as little as possible.

You will see the result of the exam by mail. If you’ve passed you’ll have completed this part of the integration exam.

Listening

You take the Listening exam on a computer. You will answer questions about short films and you listen to texts. The exam lasts 45 minutes.

Reading

You take the Reading exam on a computer. You will read texts and also answer questions. The exam lasts 65 minutes.

Writing

You take the Writing exam with pen and paper. You will be given 4 assignments. This can involve writing a short letter, for instance, or filling out a form. The exam lasts 40 minutes.

When it’s time for your exam the exam leader calls you.

The exam leader checks your ID once more.

In the exam room everyone is assigned a place. Pen and paper will be brought to you.

The exam leader hands out the exam booklet. You can now start with the exam. Read the assignments carefully and write the answers in the booklet.

If you have question during the exam raise your hand. The exam leader will come over to you. Ask the question. The exam leader will answer you. This way you will disturb the exam as little as possible.

You will receive the result by mail. If you pass the exam you’ll have completed this part of the integration exam.

Knowledge of Dutch Society

You take the Knowledge of Dutch Society exam on a computer. You will watch short films which can be about, for instance, shopping or going to the doctor. After each film you answer questions. The exam lasts 45 minutes.

Orientation on the Dutch Labour Market

The Orientation on the Dutch Labour Market exam is about working and looking for work. You only need to take this exam if you started your integration before 1 January 2022, or if you are integrating voluntarily.

Module Labour Market and Participation

Did you start your integration on 1 January 2022 or after? Your PIP states if you need to take the Module Labour Market and Participation (MAP). You take this module with the municipality . You will learn about working and finding work in the Netherlands. The module consist of 2 parts:
