The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is probably the best-known and most commonly used English proficiency test. Along with the IELTS, it is one of the two tests that are usually accepted by American universities. The TOEFL was designed specifically to test knowledge of English as it is used in a college or university setting.

IELTS-Academic Version
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is widely recognized by universities and employers around the world. CAE
The Cambridge exams are not as common globally as the TOEFL or IELTS, however they are often required for admission to UK universities.
