IELTS is a widely popular English language proficiency test that students undertake to pursue an international degree. IELTS Test Dates 2022
IELTS exams are conducted in two different modes: computer-delivered tests and paper-based tests. While computer-delivered tests are available thrice a day for 7 days a week, the paper-based test is available up to 4 times a month. However, the dates of the paper-based IELTS test will depend on the type of test one appears for.

IELTS tests usually take place on Thursdays and Saturdays or Fridays and Sundays. While the Reading, Writing, and Listening tests take place on the test date, the Speaking test usually happens 7 days before or after the assigned date.

Test Centres for IELTS Exam in India
From 25th July 2021, IDP Education is the only authorised body that has been conducting IELTS tests. IDP Education holds paper-based IELTS exams in its test centres across 75 Indian cities. These cities include:

As stated earlier, candidates can appear for their IELTS test on any of the 48 dates available in a year. Although one can opt to choose a date at their convenience, it is advised to register in advance to get the most preferred dates.
Students can appear for the IELTS test as many times as they wish. However, they need to register each time with a fee of Rs. 14,700.
One can register for IELTS exams either online or through an in-person process.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you register for the IELTS test using the online process:
Step 1: Visit the official website of IELTS IDP India and choose the ‘Register for IELTS’ option.

Candidates can also register for the IELTS test in-person at any of the IDP India offices. One can either fill up the application form at the office itself or download the online application form and submit it accordingly. The payment can be made either through credit card, demand draft, or ICICI Bank deposit slips. Once done, candidates will receive an instant confirmation of the registration.
How to Reschedule the Dates of IELTS Exam?
Candidates can reschedule their assigned IELTS dates. However, you have to communicate it either personally or through email. Rescheduling the dates of IELTS cannot take place over phone calls.
There are certain regulations that one should be aware of while opting to reschedule their IELTS dates. If a candidate reschedules IELTS exam dates 5 weeks before the test date, they are eligible for a refund minus the administration charge. However, if the rescheduling takes place within 5 weeks of the test date, the entire registration fee will be charged unless there is an unavoidable medical reason.
Things to Keep in Mind While Registering for IELTS
IELTS registration is one of the most crucial steps which have to be carried out accurately. Any error in the registration process can potentially lead to the cancellation of the online application.
Here are some important points that students need to remember while registering for IELTS tests:
1. Make sure to have a valid passport. It is compulsory to upload a scanned copy of the passport while registering for IELTS tests. Moreover, students need to display their passports to gain access to the test centres on the days of IELTS exams.
2. One should provide authentic and correct information while filling up an online application form. Any discrepancy in provided information can lead to complications in the future.
3. It is recommended to register for IELTS tests at least 3 months beforehand. This will enable students to get the desired dates and time slots.
Available Payment Options for IELTS Registration
Students have to pay a registration fee of Rs. 14,700 at the time of the online form application. For online registration, candidates have to pay the fees through Net Banking, debit card or credit card payments.
However, those who choose offline registration can pay with any of the following methods:
1. Cash payment: Students can pay in cash at any of the ICICI bank branches. They need to fill up the payment slip and deposit the registration charge.
2. Demand draft: One can also pay through demand drafts that are payable in New Delhi.
Test Cancellation and Refund Policy
If a candidate is unable to sit for the IELTS test on the assigned exam date, he/she has the option to cancel the dates. The cancellation window, however, depends on the type of test one is opting for.
For instance, students appearing for computer-based IELTS exams can cancel their exam dates 3 weeks before the official exam date.
However, those appearing for paper-based IELTS have to cancel the exam at least 5 weeks before.

IDP will charge an administration fee before refunding the amount. The refunded amount will be deposited in the bank account that the candidate used for payment during IELTS registration. In case a candidate has paid offline via an ICICI bank branch, this refunded amount will be sent back through NEFT. It might take 8-10 business days for the refund amount to reflect.
Cancellation/Reschedule Policy During COVID-19
IDP has updated the cancellation and rescheduling policy in view of the global public health crisis. To ensure the convenience and flexibility of candidates, IDP has reduced the number of days before which one can cancel or change the dates of IELTS exam. The updated policy has come into effect from July 2020.
As per recent updates, candidates can request for cancellation or rescheduling of test dates 10 days beforehand. Students can either mail the application or send it directly to the IELTS Gurgaon office.
