A shopping mall is a building or group of buildings that contain stores. The stores are connected by walkways so that consumers can easily walk between the stores. Greg Petro said, “They are now not only anchored by department stores but with popular restaurants, bars, salons, cinemas, and fitness centers.” Malls can be built in an enclosed or open-air format or even outside. These malls have brought a new revolution in the world of shopping. If you look around, you will find that shopping malls are everywhere. Along with shopping malls are the numerous people in them. You cannot say you’ve never been in a shopping mall. The main reason why shopping malls are so popular is that they are very convenient. Most of them include clothing stores, a food court, movie theaters, arcade rooms, and much more. Not every shopping mall is the same, but they all basically have the same things. Which are shopping and a place to hang out and cruise with your friends, maybe even meet new people. Also shopping malls are for all ages, not just teenagers, and for all kinds of different people.

When you go to a mall you will find the majority of the people in there are teenagers. The boys usually just want to eat and play video games, while the girls just want to shop and gossip. Many usually don’t shop at all; they just want a place to hang out. And for most teenagers getting to your favorite shopping mall isn’t that hard. They either have a car, or a friend with a car. A shopping mall brings in a lot of money, with holiday shopping and tourists. If you have ever been in a mall during the holidays you know how hectic it can get. There are moms fighting over the last toy her child wants and someone fighting over the last chocolate chip cookie at the cookie corner. Along with the holidays come the sales after it, which makes the perfect time to shop. This applies especially to Christmas. Also when the seasons change, sales come with it, as new shipments come in, with new styles. Plus with a shopping mall comes jobs and business, not only for adults, but teenagers as well. Karen Sternheimer said, “Malls and other local retailers often provided teens with their first jobs.” Many businesses hire when the holidays are near, but this is only seasonal employment. Discounts usually come with a job at the mall, so this makes getting a job there more appealing.
To me shopping malls welcome everybody with welcome arms. It’s a place that everybody wants to be! You walk in and you smell the fresh popcorn that is in the process of being made, the pretzels being cooked at the pretzel stand, the cookies and coffee at Nestle, bath and body works many different scents, and let’s not forget the Stir Fry food! Every mall has places to get massages too, and I think that’s the best thing yet. Who wouldn’t want a massage after a long day of shopping? The mall is always decorated according to the season or holiday, and that makes it a bigger attraction to us people in the little city of Wichita Falls. When I walk around in the gigantic enveloping walls of the mall, I feel as if a brand new adventure has just opened up for me. What new shirts are in style this fall season? Are ripped jeans out already? The best thing about shopping is that I am in control of everything. If I see a shirt that I adore, I am the one who decides if I want to buy it or not. There is no pressure in making a choice, unlike the decision of whether or not one should study in school. If one does not study in school, there will be severe consequences such as not getting into college or dropping out of high school. However, if one does not buy that shirt, there will not be negative consequences. That is the beauty of shopping. One has an abundant number of choices. Everything about the mall just makes me happy, I enjoy window shopping past the different stores, I enjoy fighting for that last shirt on sale during black Friday weekend or holidays, and last but not least, I enjoy how the mall is an escape from the worries of life. I quietly whisper under my breath, See you next week, mall.

A place that comes to mind when I am thinking about a place portrayed on television is the North Pole on the movie The Polar Express, Christmas time is my absolute favorite so I had to choose this. The Polar Express is a magical Christmas story of getting a kid to believe in Santa. The kid goes by the name “Hero Boy”. The boy climbs aboard a train to go to the North Pole to see Santa. He is the one chosen to receive the first gift of Christmas, which was a silver bell off of the reindeers. He cannot hear it at first, but then he finally lets himself believe in Santa and can hear the bell for the rest of his life. The North Pole in the Polar Express is magical and full of Christmas spirit. It would be any kids dream to get to experience that if it was real. It portrays itself to be this fun place with many Christmas activities to do. There is a tour guide that takes you through these elvatores that are clear so you can see all of Santa’s work getting done.
I chose places such as a shopping mall, a place that more than likely everybody could relate to me on some type of level. This is a place where many different things occur, such as fashion shows and other shopping activities. It’s obviously a place that means something to me. Then I talked about a magical place that people would call “Santa’s North Pole”, and I got my information from the movie The Polar Express. Everybody has their own opinions on places that mean something to them. A place could mean alot to you, but the next person that comes across it might not care about it.
